Specific App Tips:
NOTE: Once you have purchased an app you can always download that app again without a charge as long as you are using the same iTunes account from the original purchase. This is also true with FREE apps. Even if you purchased a FREE app and the developer has started to charge for the app, you are still able to download the app for FREE.

Mail App - Quickly delete email
  • When you email INBOX is displayed, you will see a list of your email
  • Gently swipe across the email, and a RED Delete button will appear
  • Then simply TAP the Delete button and your email will be deleted
NOTE: This technique works with most other apps

NEW iOS 5 Mail
  • You now can mark mail as read

  • Safari now has TABS
  • Hold down the + sign to bring up previous closed tabs

Create shortcuts to Favorite Websites on your Home Screen
  • Access the site you want
  • Tap the + button at the top (before iOS 5)
  • Tap the right arrow button (iOS 5)
  • Select "Add to Home Screen"

Saving images
  • Press down on the desired photo or graphic with your finger
  • A pop-up box will appear with options
  • Tap the Save Image option to download into your Photo Album

Web Surfing
  • If using a .com domain, just type the name of the website and Safari will do the rest (For example, type apple to quickly access the Apple Website
  • Tap and hold a link to bring up a pop-up with options
  • Tap and hold the .com key on the keyboard to bring up different options (.net, .org, .us, .edu)
  • Tap the bookmark button in the address bar to Add a Bookmark, Add the url to your Home Screen, Mail the link of the website to your friends, or Print

Viewing PDF files
  • When you are viewing a PDF file in Safari, tap toward the top of the document to bring up the options of Open in iBooks or Open in... other appropriate apps that you may have on your iPad.
  • Most apps listed will allow you to read and/or save the PDF file.

Camera Tips:
Still pictures
  • You do have a zoom function for the Back camera only. Pinching the screen will display a Zoom bar along the bottom.
  • Use the Grid for Still photos by tapping Options at the top of the screen.Set the exposure, by tap the person or object on the screen.
  • Lock the exposure by touching and holding the screen until the rectangle pulses. AE Lock appears on the screen, and the exposure remains locked until you tap the screen again
Editing Photos Tips: You can rotate, enhance, remove red-eye, and crop photos. Enhancing improves a photo’s overall darkness or lightness, color saturation, and other qualities.
  • While viewing a photo full-screen, tap Edit, then choose a tool.

Trimming videos:You can trim the frames from the beginning and end of a video that you just recorded, or from any other video in your Camera Roll album. You can replace the original video, or save the trimmed version as a new video clip.
  • While viewing a video, tap the screen to display the controls. Drag either end of the frame viewer at the top of the video, then tap Trim.
  • Important: If you choose Trim Original, the trimmed frames are permanently deleted from the original video. If you choose “Save as New Clip,” a new trimmed video clip is saved in your Camera Roll album, leaving the original video unaffected.

Taking better pictures and videos - Sometimes it is hard holding the iPad still to take a picture or video.
  • You can hold down the "Shutter" button until you are ready and then release to take your picture or video
  • You can also take a picture or video using the "Volume" button on the side of the iPad.

Dragon Dictation
  • Over time will create a profile specifically for the user
  • Can insert a new line by saying "new line"
  • Can insert punctuation by saying for example, "question mark"
  • Type the i (info) icon in the bottom right corner for more tips
  • Do need Internet connection for this to work

  • If you do not have Keynote to do presentations, save your presentation as a PDF and view with GoodReader (iPad 1st gen)
  • Hyperlinks in documents are live
  • Ability to annotate documents and save a copy of the annotated file

Built-in Notes app:
  • You can change the font by going to Settings>Notes. There are three current font choices. Tap your preferred font.
  • Sync your notes to your GMAIL or MOBILE ME account in Settings>Notes>Default Account
